Junior Achievement Big Bend and Leon County Schools have partnered to provide local students with the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship. Leaders from the business community volunteer to provide students with first-hand experiences, helping students create a unique business idea and completing their own business model. JA "Be Entrepreneurial" is reaching nearly 1,500 area high school students annually.
The concept for Shark Bowl came from a very real need in our community- the need to engage teens and young adults in understanding "business." Whether students become business owners or not, they will gain valuable insights and confidence that will serve them for a lifetime. Every student who learns about entrepreneurship is better for it! While developing an understanding of what it takes to run a business, they also become better workers and employees. The JA Big Bend Shark Bowl is a countywide competition of 25 students. Five finalists from each high school include one stage presentation and four student interactive displays.
The following area high schools participated in this program:
• Chiles High School
• Godby High School
• Leon High School
• Lincoln High School
• Rickards High School
The inaugural Shark Bowl competition would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors. In addition to supporting this event, many have provided scholarships and prizes for our competing students.
