About Junior Achievement in Tuscaloosa County

Junior Achievement of Tuscaloosa County has reached 99,010 students in 4,900 classrooms since 2003-2004. Reaching over 12,000 K-12 students annually in the Tuscaloosa County area, JA connects members of the business community with the classroom to teach experiential, hands-on curriculum.  Programs focus on workforce readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship to cultivate success among students and increase the relevancy of their education.  JA students engage in constructive activities, covering topics such as defining the difference between needs and wants, budgeting skills, workplace ethics, application of entrepreneurial thinking and skills, and running a business.

Schools in our community look to Junior Achievement to provide supplemental learning experiences that help young people develop the competence, confidence, and character to make smart academic and economic decisions.  In a collaborative workforce readiness initiative, Junior Achievement programs are currently offered to all 2nd and 7th grade students in Tuscaloosa city and county schools.  This community-wide effort is also being expanded to include 12th grade students across Tuscaloosa County with JA Personal Success, a program which prepares students for life.
