Importance of Staying in School
JA reinforces the value of an education. Evaluations conducted by an independent research firm showed that an average of eight out of 10 high school students reported that JA programs helped reinforce the importance of staying in school. In longitudinal studies, JA students were significantly more likely than their peers to believe that they would graduate from high school, pursue post-secondary education and graduate from college.
Preparation for the Real World
Ninety-five percent of teachers report that students who participate in JA have a better understanding of how the real world operates, and nine out of 10 teachers and volunteers agree that JA programs connect what is learned in the classroom to the outside world.
Educator-Respected and Recommended
Ninety-six percent of teachers agreed or strongly agreed that they would recommend JA to a colleague or friend.
How it Works
Select a JA Program
We make it easy! Just give us a call or email us, and one of our helpful JA Program Managers will reach out to you to answer any questions you may have. They can also visit with you personally if you prefer! Your JA Program Manager will help you decide between weekly classroom visits, our JA In-A-Day model or JA BizTown.
Choose Your Schedule
If you have chosen weekly classroom visits, your JA Progam Manager will then connect you with your amazing JA volunteer for the two of you to coordinate schedules. If you have chosen a JA In-A-Day model the JA Program Manager will coordinate with you directly.
For JA BizTown, we will work with you and your school to schedule which day your students will attend the simulation.
During the Visit
For all in-class programs, your JA volunteer will guide your students through fun and engaging activities. You are there to support your volunteer and help manage the classroom. The time commitment is dependent on the program selected.
For JA BizTown you complete a four-week classroom curriculum, then bring your kids to the city simulation where they run the town for the day! Volunteers guide students through their job responsibilities throughout the day.
Your students will be inspired to connect what they are learning in the classroom to the real world and to their future success.
Ways To Be A JA Educator
Weekly JA In-Class
As an educator, you'll be paired with a volunteer. Volunteers visit your classroom once per week for five to six weeks. Each visit lasts approximately 45 minutes.
JA In A Day
This experience uses the same JA programs as the weekly method, but it's condensed into a single day for a high-impact experience! Programming works around the students' schedules (lunch and specials are maintained).
JA Job Shadow®
High School students learn to recognize career opportunities and potential job positions; they conduct mock interviews and attend a site visit to a professional work environment. A JA Program Manager will coordinate with the teacher to provide company/ organization options for the visit.
