Accountant

Part Time – 15-20 hours per week – $20-$22 per hour

The Accountant maintains financial systems and provides timely information adding value to the decision making process. This position reports to the President & CEO.

  • Provides accurate and timely financial information to senior management.  Maintains current status on cash, receivables, account receivables and year-to-date contributions.   Prepares financial statements, income, expense and balance sheets.  Compares budget with variance analysis and recommends corrective action.  Gathers expense information needed to prepare annual budget for fiscal year-end Board meeting and current projections by fiscal mid-year Board meetings.
  • Responsible for accounts payable and working with vendors.
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliations and month end close.
  • Maximizes cash utilization.  Manages cash and funding of disbursement account.   Makes timely payments of debt.  Develops cash flow projections.
  • Maintains awareness and compliance to Junior Achievement USA and to federal, state and city agencies.  Adheres to National's submission deadlines.  Complies with legal filings for IRS 990, W2's, 1099's and other state and city documents. Schedules and coordinates annual audit by CPA firm.
  • Maintains payroll and benefits.  Provides current information to National on status of new and terminated employees, salary/other personal changes and insurance enrollment. Provides timely advice regarding adherence to established Junior Achievement policies.
  • Supports ability to enhance management of financial, personnel/operational, decision making and recordkeeping processes.

Qualified candidates should have the following:

  • Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Required experience in nonprofit accounting
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Quickbooks
  • Organizational and planning skills

Programs Assistant                                                                     

Full Time - $26,000 annual salary / Full benefits include medical/dental/life, retirement plan, and paid time off

The Programs Assistant will provide admninstrative, data entry and scheduling support; oversee traditional classroom program management; and assist with volunteer and teacher recruitment and training. This position reports tot he Vice President of Operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer and teacher communications via email and phone; Volunteer and teacher support
  • Material preparation for volunteer and teacher trainings and orientations
  • Data entry and database maintenance
  • Individual and group volunteer training
  • Coordination and oversight of and assistance with several volunteer events at local elementary schools
  • Program materials inventory management / Program kit rebuild
  • Volunteer recruitment

The successful candidate will be experienced, collaborative, organized and have the ability to implement creative solutions in challenging situations. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with various constituents is required.

  • Preferred experience in nonprofit organizations and/or project/program management
  • Preferred experience in data entry/data management
  • Excellent oral and written communication, public speaking and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Preferred volunteer recruitment experience
  • Experience in training and/or teaching
  • Two- or four-year degree
  • Preferred knowledge of area schools
  • Spanish fluency is a plus
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
