Development and Special Events Manager

Full Time - $42,000 annually

Full Time - Full benefits include medical/dental/life, retirement plan, and paid time off

The Development and Special Events Manager is responsible for the management and coordination of Junior Achievement of Central Virginia annual fund communications, data management, gift acknowledgement, events and junior board oversight.  This position reports to the Vice President of Development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate special events including the annual Bowl for JA fundraising event and the JA Greater Richmond Business Hall of Fame gala. Create and coordinate event correspondence, marketing strategy, communications and production and distribution of materials. Manage guest lists and materials. Maintain planning calendars to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Solicit special event corporate sponsorship for Bowl for JA and any new events; research and identify potential sponsors; prepare proposals.
  • Data entry of pledges, gifts and online donations. Database reconciliation.
  • Assist in annual fund campaign strategy and communications.
  • Acknowledge gifts with thank you letters and provide follow-up for proposals and grants.
  • Serve as liaison to the JA of Central Virginia Young Professionals Board. Coordinate meetings, steer projects, etc.
  • Write and apply for grants under the direction of the Vice President of Developmennt.
  • Coordinate and market fundraising events with community partners including local restaurants, merchants, and board companies
  • Manage development information in donor management system which tracks prospects, solicitors and funding history.  Assure data is timely and accurate and prepare reports.
  • Provide administrative support to Vice President of Development.
  • Work with staff to create and distribute special event brochures. Develop hard-copy and digital versions.

Qualified candidates should have the following:

  • Required experience in fund development with a strong emphasis on event coordination
  • Required experience in donor management software and data entry
  • Required experience in nonprofit organizations
  • Comfortable meeting with or presenting to individuals or groups
  • Preferred experience working with boards and committees
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The successful candidate will be experienced, motivated, collaborative, and organized and have the ability to implement creative solutions in challenging situations.

Accountant

Part Time – 20 hours per week – Salary commensurate with experience

The Accountant maintains financial systems and provides timely information adding value to the decision making process. This position reports to the President & CEO.

  • Provides accurate and timely financial information to senior management.  Maintains current status on cash, receivables, account receivables and year-to-date contributions.   Prepares financial statements, income, expense and balance sheets.  Compares budget with variance analysis and recommends corrective action.  Gathers expense information needed to prepare annual budget for fiscal year-end Board meeting and current projections by fiscal mid-year Board meetings.
  • Responsible for accounts payable and working with vendors.
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliations and month end close.
  • Maximizes cash utilization.  Manages cash and funding of disbursement account.   Makes timely payments of debt.  Develops cash flow projections.
  • Maintains awareness and compliance to Junior Achievement USA and to federal, state and city agencies.  Adheres to National's submission deadlines.  Complies with legal filings for IRS 990, W2's, 1099's and other state and city documents. Schedules and coordinates annual audit by CPA firm.
  • Maintains payroll and benefits.  Provides current information to National on status of new and terminated employees, salary/other personal changes and insurance enrollment. Provides timely advice regarding adherence to established Junior Achievement policies.
  • Supports ability to enhance management of financial, personnel/operational, decision making and recordkeeping processes.

  • Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Required experience in nonprofit accounting
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Peachtree
  • Organizational and planning skills
