President Paul Kappel, Jr.
Paul Kappel, Jr. has been involved in education for over 24 years. Paul initially joined Junior Achievement with the Georgia office in 1997 as the Middle Grades Education Director. In 1998, he was promoted to the position of Vice President, Education. In 2003, he was recruited to lead the programmatic efforts in the National Capital Area and eventually moved into responsibility for the operations and resource generation efforts as Executive Vice President. His last year of leadership in D.C. resulted in $2.3M raised and 35,000 students served. Paul started as President in Southeastern Pennsylvania in August 2007. During his tenure in Philadelphia, JA has received three consecutive Summit Awards for operating excellence, the first in over 10 years. In 2014, JA of Southeastern PA was honored with the organization's first Peak Performance Team Award, the highest honor given to an area office by Junior Achievement USA. Currently, over 21,000 Delaware and Lehigh Valley students per year participate in a JA program. Prior to joining Junior Achievement, he worked for Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania from 1990-1997 in the Student Life department. Paul earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bloomsburg in 1989 and received his Master of Science in Human Resources in 1993 from the University of Scranton. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Downingtown Community Education Foundation. Paul resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two children.
Program Director Laura Yohe
Laura joined the JA Worldwide network as the Development Manager of the National Capital Area office in 2003 and then became the District Director for the new Montgomery County, Maryland office in 2006. Since joining the Philadelphia office in 2007, she has conducted fundraising and special events as well as managed local program operations. Today, Laura is responsible for Junior Achievement's K-12 program initiatives in the five county Philadelphia Region, as well as the three county Lehigh Valley Region. A native of the Greater Washington DC community, Laura has more than thirteen years of experience in the non-profit industry. Upon graduating from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science, Laura supported the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation as a clerk in human resources and accounting. Prior to working for Junior Achievement, Laura developed community partnerships and managed the individual giving campaign for a branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington as the Assistant Fundraising and Community Development Director.
Philadelphia Program Manager Anjela Alvaredo
Anjela Alvarado has an extensive background serving the Greater Philadelphia region through a variety of non-profit organizations. She has recruited early literacy volunteers to serve as reading coaches, trained high school students living with disabilities to enter the workforce, and coordinated both fundraising events and volunteer projects to benefit local schools, non-profit agencies, and minority-owned businesses. Anjela graduated from the Fox School of Business at Temple University with a bachelor's degree in Marketing. She later continued her studies at Temple earning a master's degree in Social Work with a focus on Community and Policy Arenas.
Anjela joined Junior Achievement of Southeastern Pennsylvania in October 2016. As Philadelphia Program Manager, she manages the JA Step to Success program which has inspired over 5,000 3rd graders in the School District of Philadelphia to pursue higher education and provided an opportunity to visit a college campus. Anjela's work with JA also focuses on providing educational opportunities to students in the juvenile justice system and students with special needs.
