What is JA Company Program?

JA Company Program

The JA Company Program empowers high school students to fill a need or solve a problem in their community and teaches them practical skills required to conceptualize, capitalize, and manage their own business venture. Throughout the process of building their own company, students collaborate, make crucial business decisions, communicate with multiple stakeholders, and develop entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. Community volunteers and mentors provide real world guidance and experience to the student-led startup.

Here in Delaware, the program is available in three models:
  • In-school (any partner teacher; Marketing Pathway Level 3; or existing/new school store)
  • After-school (club, CTSO, etc.)
  • Host-site Internship (community business/organization partner)

The program runs from October through April with regularly scheduled meetings. JA organizes and facilitates county-wide 'pitch' events in November called, JA Piranha Pond Pitch, in which we help fund student startups. Plus, JA hosts a regional competition for student companies to return and share their story in April called, JA Barracuda Bowl! (link for 2019 competition). These events further develop & showcase student companies' talents, skills and accomplishments but also enables our business partners to engage with and challenge these teen entrepreneurs each and every year.

High school students, entrepreneurs, teachers, parents, businesses & their associates and any community agents of change are all welcome to take on the challenge and partner with Junior Achievement of Delaware today!
