Around the state of Kansas, this week is primarily the week where we go back to slowing down in school zones, the last-minute school supply runs are made, and parents all over are prepping those first-day outfits and pictures. That’s right, it’s the first week of school!
What does “Back to School” mean to JA of Kansas? Let’s take it letter by letter.
B – Board Meetings. Our three district boards and statewide boards also take summer off but in August & September, we are back to it! Our boards guide & oversee our staff and the direction of JA.
A – Air Capital of the World aka Wichita! Wichita serves over 10,000 students in over 440 classrooms and hosts the Wichita Business Hall of Fame & JA Golf Classic.
C – Classes. The fall starts off our programming year, jumping right into classrooms during the fall semester!
K – Kansas! Did you know that JA of Kansas serves the entire state? We reach not only our service areas of Topeka, Lawrence, & Wichita, but also have reach into the Marysville and Seneca areas!
T – Top City aka Topeka! Topeka is where our main offices are located – the capital city serves over 11,000 students in over 550 classrooms and hosts the Topeka Business Hall of Fame and Bowl-A-Thon!
O – Ourselves and Our Families, the Kindergarten and 1st grade programs. These classes offer learning based on introducing the concepts of how people play a role in economies and how families & family members contribute to the economy.

C – College and Career Guide. Our annual guide is distributed statewide during the month of September, providing information on postsecondary educational & career pathways.
H – Hands on learning & experiences. Through our in-depth programs and student symposiums, we provide relevant, interactive opportunities for students aged K-12.
O – Our Community & Our City. These 2nd and 3rd grade programs deal with businesses, jobs, money, and exchanging of money and how all those work within the city & community where students live.
O – Our Region and Our Nation. Taking the earlier class concepts and building upon them, our 4th and 5th grade programs introduces kids to the concepts of entrepreneurship, business movement, needs of employers, and job growth & development.
L – Lawrence district! Lawrence serves over 5,900 students in over 270 classrooms and hosts the JA Beach Ball, the Lawrence Business Hall of Fame and the Bowl-A-Thon!
