Junior Achievement of Kansas - Douglas County District Presents at USD 497 Board Meeting
6/27/18 3:33 PM: Lawrence, KS - Representatives from Junior Achievement of Kansas (JA) appeared at the June meeting of the USD 497 (Lawrence Public Schools) Board of Education meeting on Monday June 25. Debbie Harman, Douglas County District Director and Bradley Burnside, Douglas County District Board of Directors President, gave an update on programming provided to Lawrence Public Schools in the 2017-2018 academic year.
In 2017-2018, JA reached nearly 6,000 students in 279 classrooms. With the addition of Hillcrest Elementary School, JA programs are being provided to every elementary school, all 8th grade students, and 6th grade at West Middle School in the district. Also new to 2017-2018 was the addition of the "Be Entrepreneurial" prgoram at each high school. Programming was provided by 143 volunteers from 54 Lawrence & Douglas County businesses. Total value of the programming provided to students amounted to $173,550, provided at no cost to the schools.
