Junior Achievement to host statewide online business competition for high school students
Junior Achievement of Maine will host its 13th Annual Titan Challenge for high school students on Wednesday, February 27th. Sponsored by KeyBank, the business competition pits teams of high school students against each other as they attempt to manage a virtual company in a competitive marketplace. The 2019 event will match nearly 350 high school students with mentors from local businesses across the state, competing for the ultimate prize of scholarship money.
The event is hosted at seven locations from 8:15am-2:10pm:
Bangor Savings Bank, Bangor
IDEXX Laboratories, Westbrook
Machias Savings Bank, Machias
Thomas College, Waterville
Tyler Technologies, Yarmouth
University of New England, Biddeford
University of Maine, Presque Isle
There will be a regional winning team at each location and a statewide winning team. Last year’s overall winning team came from Yarmouth High School.
Tyler Technologies will lead a breakout session asking students to work with their business mentor to identify a fun way to earn spending money this summer by brainstorming mobile app ideas. Students will then be eligible to submit their ideas to the Maine App Challenge for a chance to win a scholarship.
Mentors guide students through the rounds of competition, sharing their own work and life experience throughout the day, offering a unique perspective and acting as a resource as students make business decisions in varying economic climates.
