What Can You Expect as a Volunteer?

Preparation

As soon as we receive your volunteer sign-up form, we will do our best to match your preferences with the classroom requests from area teachers.

New JA volunteers will have a brief orientation, usually when they pick up their JA program kit.  At this orientation we will review the program materials and what you can expect from your upcoming classroom experience.

Teacher Support

After you complete orientation you will need to contact your teacher and work out your classroom schedule.  Once this schedule is set, you will need to stick to it!  The classroom times and teacher plans are not very flexible - the teacher is counting on you to be on time the day of your visit.  The teacher will remain in the classroom during your visit.  The teacher's role is to provide discipline and help you guide the students in understanding the material.

JA Support

JA provides the materials and training you need for your classroom.  In addition, the JA staff is always willing to help you make the most of your JA classroom experience.   You can contact JA anytime if you ever have any questions, concerns, or just want to share.
