Get Smart About Credit

Credit education isn't just about paying for college, credit cards and loans, but encompasses budgeting, understanding a credit report and identity protection. It's also critical to the post-secondary success of young people, many of whom are starting their adult lives with significant student loan debt. Together, let's raise awareness about the importance of using credit wisely!

Junior Achievement of Northern California is partnering with the America Banking Associations' Community Engagement Foundation Get Smart About Credit initiative. Volunteers from the financial services industry and community members who have a passion for helping teenagers manage their money have the opportunity to visit and teach a JA program to high school classrooms around the Bay Area and Central California.

Using JA Finance Park®, JA volunteers will facilitate a budget activity in Northern California classrooms. Students will practice preparing personal budgets, research and recognize the need for responsible spending, and explore options for paying for higher education.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Complete a 2016-17 JA Registration Form
  • Attend JA training via conference call or in person
  • Facilitate JA Finance Park's Sample Budgets, Personal Budgets, and Paying for Post-Secondary Education activities in JA Economics classrooms…or… choose from our library of credit themed lessons ( 1 to 1 ½ hour time commitment)
  • Feel good about helping students figure out how to finance their higher education!!
