April is Financial Literacy month and Junior Achievement has very exciting news!
Just this week Junior Achievement has been named “Organization of the Year” by the Institute for Financial Literacy (IFL) as part of its annual Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Award. Junior Achievement USA Senior Vice President of Education and Learning Technologies MC Desrosiers is in Orlando to receive the honor on behalf of JA at IFL’s Annual Conference on Financial Education.
JA is being recognized for redeveloping and updating several programs that teach financial literacy in k-12 classrooms. Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada works with community volunteers to teach financial literacy to thousands of students. Since the start of the fiscal year Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada has served approximately 25 Northern Nevada schools and over 9,000 students.
This recognition from IFL comes at an important time for Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada. 2017 saw the introduction of Senate Bill 249, which, when passed, will require instruction in Financial Literacy and Economics to all students enrolled in public schools by 2020. Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada’s curriculums would fill this requirement without increasing the work load on our teachers!
As the demand for our curriculum continues to grow so does our need for volunteers! Anyone can teach JA and we provide you the tools to succeed! If you are interested in volunteering with us contact us at 775.323.8084 or email Kristin.email@example.com
