JA In The News | Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada

JA is Really Newsworthy!

JANN Thanks Allstate!

Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada would like to give a huge thanks to Allstate!

Allstate offers several grant programs to support charitable organizations, in addition to providing many volunteers. Local Allstate employees proved they are  passionate about their communities and have a keen understanding of what they need most.

By participating in the Allstate Community Giving Grant, Allstate raise $22,000 to support Junior Achievement, and make sure Nevada's kids are learning and investing in their financial futures!

Fundraising ideas for schools, churches, and youth sports teams

Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada does JA in a Day in Elko!

For the first time in JANN history, we will be putting on a JA in-a-day in Elko! It has been one of our goals to teach financial literacy in Elko schools for many years, and with the generous support of the Wiegand Foundation we are finally able to do so!

We are looking for volunteers to teach financial literacy at our Elko JA-in-a-day on Friday, May 25th 2018! We will provide a brief teacher training and all the materials you need to teach the program. This is a single day commitment that will provide students with the knowledge they need to achieve their dreams!

Not in the area? No problem! Come explore this historic Nevada city with a small town feel!

And most importantly, lunch is on us!

Send us an email or give us a ring (775.323.8084) for more information!

Junior Achievement Named "Organization of the Year"

April is Financial Literacy month and Junior Achievement has very exciting news!

Just this week Junior Achievement has been named “Organization of the Year” by the Institute for Financial Literacy (IFL) as part of its annual Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Award. Junior Achievement USA Senior Vice President of Education and Learning Technologies MC Desrosiers is in Orlando to receive the honor on behalf of JA at IFL’s  Annual Conference on Financial Education.

JA is being recognized for redeveloping and updating several programs that teach financial literacy in k-12 classrooms. Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada works with community volunteers to teach financial literacy to thousands of students. Since the start of the fiscal year Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada has served approximately 25 Northern Nevada schools and over 9,000 students.

This recognition from IFL comes at an important time for Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada. 2017 saw the introduction of Senate Bill 249, which, when passed, will require instruction in Financial Literacy and Economics to all students enrolled in public schools by 2020. Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada’s curriculums would fill this requirement without increasing the work load on our teachers!

As the demand for our curriculum continues to grow so does our need for volunteers! Anyone can teach JA and we provide you the tools to succeed! If you are interested in volunteering with us contact us at 775.323.8084 or email Kristin.reagan@ja.org

We Need You

At Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada we work to ensure that each student in our community can attain their own economic success. We do this by teaching work readiness, entrepreneurship, financial literacy to all grade levels. We can only do this by pairing classrooms with volunteers within our community! Anyone can teach our curriculum and it’s a total blast! Help kindergartners come up with business ideas for their favorite activities, teach first graders the importance of neighborhoods in their community, or teach fifth graders the value of spending or saving their allowance! Do this once a week for 5 weeks, or helps us complete a JA in a day! Our volunteer schedule is student friendly and we can always find what works best for you!
