Why Junior Achievement?
JA helps students realize that the education they are getting today will help them to have a bright future tomorrow. JA's unique, volunteer-delivered programs, show them all of the possibilities that lay before them. They realize they can choose different paths; College? A specific trade? Start their own business? Through your participation as an organization or as an individual, these statistics below can begin to change in your community:
- 20% of U.S. students will not complete high school on time and earn a diploma.
- 49% of U.S. employers recognize that talent shortages impact their ability to serve clients and customers.
- 36% of Americans say that they have at some point in their lives felt their financial situation was out of control.
- 91% of millennials wish they had greater access to entrepreneurial education programs.
Volunteer for Junior Achievement
TRADITIONAL (WEEKLY VISITS)
The weekly Junior Achievement® program takes place in a child's classroom, during which volunteers present one of JA®'s proven financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs to a K-12 classroom on a weekly basis, coordinating the schedule with the teacher. Volunteers and teachers work together to mutually arrange the required number of sessions and session lengths, taking into account the classroom schedule and volunteer's work schedule.
30 minute, scheduled at your convenience
15-30 minutes prior to each visit to the classroom
30-60 minutes, generally once-a-week, for 5-6 weeks depending on the chosen program
JA® IN A DAY (ONE DAY VISIT)
The JA® in a Day program is an in-school program, during which volunteers present Junior Achievement curriculum to students in kindergarten through eighth grade in a one-day format. JA® staff works directly with the school to arrange an event date. The volunteers cover all lessons in one visit and can teach in pairs.
