JA TITAN BUSINESS CHALLENGE

JA's Titan Business Challenge has grown into one of the region's top student programs, serving more than 1,200 students over the past seven years. Titan is an annual day-long business strategy competition in which 200 high school students from across Southern Massachusetts spend the day at UMass Dartmouth, participating in a hands-on and dynamic learning experience; learning from some of the region's top business leaders; and competing for important scholarship awards that can help make a higher education possible.

Emerging leaders compete in teams of three using the interactive business simulator, JA Titan, which puts them at the helm of a virtual company. Teams are challenged to outperform the competition in profit, sales, and market share by mastering six key business decisions:

  • Price of product
  • Production levels
  • Marketing expenses
  • Research & development costs
  • Capital investment level
  • Charitable giving

During the competition, students will:

  • Spend the day at a first-rate higher education institution and learn about the various opportunities at UMass Dartmouth.
  • Clarify personal goals, ethics, and working styles by utilizing decision-making skills from a business leadership perspective.
  • Make real world business decisions as they learn to understand important business concepts and how each decision affects a company's bottom line.
  • Practice communication, teamwork, decision-making, and leadership skills.

Each team is accompanied by a volunteer Business Mentor who helps guide them through three rounds of competition. If you are interested in learning more about JA's Titan Business Challenge or how you can get involved, please contact JA Events & Development Manager Nicole Nault at nicole.nault@ja.org.
