Program Description and Frequently Asked Questions

JA Excelling through Ethics® teaches South Dakota students that ethical behavior is essential to their futures. During JA Excelling through Ethics, business leaders visit middle and high school classrooms to share values and beliefs and engage students in a discussion about the role of ethics in both their school life and in business dealings.
During the 2017-18 school year, JA Excelling through Ethics
  • Was implemented in over 30 South Dakota communities
  • Impacted over 9,000 SD students
  • Brought over 400 business executives and community leaders into middle & high school classrooms

Is there a guide or lesson plan to follow? 

Yes, JA provides a curriuclum to be used in the classroom. 

Will I receive training prior to my presentation?

Yes, JA will provide a 30-minute online or 60-minute live web conference call training. View the training options

Will there be a teacher in the classroom?

Yes, it is a requirement that the classroom teacher remains in the classroom.

How long will my presentation to the students be?

Please allow approximately two hours for this event. Prior to entering the classroom, a brief registration session (approximately 15-30 minutes) will take place. Upon completion of your presentation, a debriefing session will take place (approximately 20-30 minutes.) View your school-specific schedule for exact times and additional school instructions/information.

Will there be a JA representative present if I have questions on the day of the event?

Yes, JA will have a representative present. A few days before the event, you will be provided a phone number to call in case an emergency arises or if you have last minute questions.

How many students will be in my class? 

Average classroom sizes will range from 18-30 students. 

What do I wear to the presentation?

Dress in professional business attire. 

Where do I park at the school? 

In most cases, you will park in the visitor parking lot. However, please view the school-specific instructions

Where do I go once I arrive at the school? 

In most cases, you will check-in at the school office, and then be directed to a specific room. However, please view for school-specific instructions

May I bring treats or a small business promotion item?

In most cases, you are allowed to bring a treat (ie: candy) or a business promotion item (ie: a pencil or notepad with your company logo).  Please check your school-specific schedule to see if your school administration has provided special notes regarding food treats.

Will media be present for the event? 

It is possible that media will be present for the event. Please also note that a JA representative might stop in your classroom to take photographs.
