JA Educator Spotlight: Andrea Crittenden

1. How long have you been involved with JA?

I have been involved with Junior Achievement since 2014 when I met several representatives at a Community based Organization Fair hosted by Hartford Public Schools.

2. What got you involved?

As a program coordinator and mentor for Global Communications Academy, I am always looking for opportunities and experiences to expose students to and expand their knowledge and skill set.

3. What is your favorite JA story or moment?

A couple years ago, one of my shyest students joined the Entrepreneurial Academy, and became a member of the marketing team. I thought the student had chosen the wrong team but was assured by her that she could perform all the tasks.  She was following my suggestion of always looking for growth opportunities to add to your skill set. To my surprise, my shy student developed a marketing video in which she was the star. She held several sessions discussing her techniques and challenges in producing and starring in the video to relative strangers.  Observing her growth from a shy student to become a self-assured marketing representative was one of the highlights of my JA involvement.

4. Why are you passionate about JA?

As a career changer, I brought several corporate skills sets to education that are beneficial and helpful to students.  Junior Achievement allowed me to meet other people like myself who bring a gamut of corporate skills and experiences to students that they may not otherwise experience.

5. What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love to do spin workouts at 5:15 a.m. daily!

Thank you for being such a great friend to Junior Achievement!
