Our Staff

President - Katherin Anderson Elam

Responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring the staff is trained properly, maintaining strong board relations, fundraising, keeping the organization financially solvent, and continue to develop a working relationship with the business community.  Continue to look for new partnerships that can benefit JA locally and globally.

Vice President of Education - Laura Elliott

Oversees the Volunteer Coordinator and provides training for new volunteers. Coordinates all Job Shadow activities and special programs. In addition, this individual is the staff liaison to the standing board committee Student Impact. This position serves on several School systems' school-to-work committees, and the Chamber of Commerce education committee.

Administrative Manager - Betsy Feldmann

Manages office support functions to facilitate a productive work environment. Composes and drafts correspondence, assists with the budget process, prepares fund drive reports, manages office supplies and postage, renews maintenance contracts, maintains equipment, and reviews the performance of Administrative Assistant.  Is responsible for successful administrative coordination of our three special events: Bowl A Thon "Party in the Alley" held in February,  "Par for the Kids" golf tournament held in late May or early June, and Business Hall of Fame.  An ultimate goal is to keep all of the events cost-effective.   In addition this position is responsible for maintaining personnel records and benefits, technology upgrades, and management of e-mail.

Volunteer Coordinator - Ioana Farthing

Responsible for recruiting, retaining, recognizing volunteers.  Gathers class details from schools and assists in bringing in new classes. Tracks program materials kits and all volunteer and class paperwork, filing reports at the proper times with the national JA office.

Special Event Coordinator and Bookkeeper - Melissa Palmer

Responsible for fundraising through special events such as the Southwest Virginia Business Hall of Fame, the JA Golf Tournament, and her primary role, with the Party in the Alley Bowlathon.  Solicits and recruits companies and individuals for sponsorship, participation and donations as well as event execution.  Creates marketing and event publications as well as assists with social media. 

As bookkeeper, she is responsible for producing monthly financial and investment reports as well as budget and annual audit.  She works with the JA Board Treasurer and Finance Committee on monitoring cash flow, budget and investment policy statement.
