Purpose: Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia, Inc. is a non-profit that empowers young people to own their economic success.

Mission: Our volunteers deliver programs to Kindergarten through 12th grade students that foster our three pillars of economic success: work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. The programs developed by Junior Achievement use experiential learning that inspires kids to dream big and reach their potential.

What's involved: Junior Achievement will train and prepare you to enter the classroom feeling ready to teach! Your volunteer kit contains everything you need to conduct your lessons, including a guidebook that takes you step-by-step through each lesson. You and your assigned teacher will decide on a class schedule that works best for both of you.

What is the time commitment?

  •   Once a week* for a total of
  •   5 Lessons   (elementary)                 or                 6 lessons (middle school)
  •   30-45 minutes each                                                  40-55  minutes each
  • Other scheduling arrangements, such as completing the whole program in one day or one week, are possible.

Our volunteer needs: We have volunteer opportunities in Roanoke County, Roanoke City, and Salem, plus Montgomery, Franklin, Carroll, and Botetourt Counties.
