Team: D.R.E.A.M. Big

Location: Junior Achievement of Georgia- Atlanta District

Turning Obstacles into Growth and Success: This team had to overcome strong personalities. Overtime, these varied personalities became the driving force for the company to succeed. This obstacle positioned the student company president to exemplify outstanding leadership abilities.

Innovative Products: This experience has taught the team skills in time management, teamwork, communication and leadership. The experience significantly inspired students to explore careers in business at a deeper level.

Getting to Know the Teams: Although both of the groups’ products were successful in bringing in profits, the team desired to allow the dream catchers to serve as an accessory to promote happy dreams and ultimately granting the wishes of severely ill children through the teams charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Team Start Up

Team: Start Up

Location: Junior Achievement of Georgia- Atlanta District

Turning Obstacles into Success: As a whole, the team experienced a learning curve as they adjusted to responsibility and learned to collaborate together as a group. Although some students were overachievers and other required more motivation to remain on task, they collectively resolved to develop a great concept that appealed to a wide range of buyers.

Innovative Products: Hand-painted rivet; this product served as artistic in nature and functional in design.

Getting to Know the Teams: The make-up of this group consists of successful students who have grown together. This growth came with the need to compromise, persevere, mature, communicate and develop conflict management skills.

Team C’est La Vie

Team: C’est La Vie

Location: Junior Achievement of Georgia- Atlanta District

Obstacles Turned into Growth and Success: An obstacle that challenged the students was the consistent attendance of all team members and overall team participation. The students quickly learned to overcome this by increasing inclusions, organizing structured meetings and establishing sales goals. Innovative

Products: Handmade wallets, hair bows, bracelets and change purses all innovatively made using Duct tape. These products come in multiple designs and colors.

Getting to Know the Teams: The students had an immediate desire not long after establishing their product to give back to the community. A number of Fellows within the group have traveled to Nicaragua to do missionary work with Amigos for Christ Organization. Their involvement amongst multiple villages compelled the students to do more. After spending some time strategizing the team agreed to personally donate 20 percent of all product revenue to the charity.

A Dedicated Volunteer

JA impacts so many people each year, whether it be a student, volunteer, parent, or teacher. This story below shares a memorable JA experience that turned into a lifetime of passion for the work JA does and introduces a wonderful person who has helped so many students over the years.

As a teenager, Sue Tjugum was part of a JA Company Program® at her high school in DeForest, Wisconsin.  In her class, they made a pen holder from an old railroad tie. Fast forward to 2007 when her first child entered kindergarten at Sacred Hearts School in Sun Prairie, part of JA of Wisconsin.  Sue wanted to get involved, so she volunteered to teach JA Ourselves® to her son's class.



The teacher was so impressed that she asked Sue to come back every year to teach JA Ourselves to the new class of kindergartners.  Each year, as her son advanced through the grades at Sacred Hearts, Sue was a JA volunteer in his classroom and also became a JA volunteer for after-school programs.

This year, her son is in 8th grade.  Sue, once again, is teaching JA in his classroom.  Her son and his classmates will graduate and move on to high school next year. "This is my last year with this group of students, so it's a little sad.  Every time the students see me with the JA bag, they get very excited," Sue said.  "And before I teach the class when I am walking down the hall, they ask me if it's JA Time", Sue added.

Since 2007, Sue has taught 51 JA classes in Sun Prairie, has helped with several JA community events, and she still has the pen holder from her high school JA class! Thank you, Sue for all of your hard work and dedication.

Ascentra Credit Union Foundation Donates $50,000 to Implement JA Programs Locally

Ascentra Credit Union and Junior Achievement Collaborate to Prepare Students for Success

Students in the Quad City metro area, Clinton and Muscatine will learn important entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness skills, thanks to a generous grant of $50,000 from Ascentra Credit Union Foundation to implement Junior Achievement (JA) programs.

This partnership will bring JA programming to students in kindergarten through 12th grade helping them learn important skills like creating a budget, becoming work-ready and developing a business plan. In addition, Ascentra Credit Union employees will continue to serve as JA classroom volunteers, as well as support other special events.  The $50,000 grant will be distributed over a four-year period with support continuing through 2018-2019.
