Greenfield High School Students Win Wisconsin JA Business Challenge

Milwaukee – Nearly 60 of the best and brightest student “CEOs” in Wisconsin competed in Junior Achievement’s annual JA Business Challenge Championship sponsored by and hosted at Acuity on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

Student teams from Greenfield High School and Rice Lake High School, the top teams at the end of the day-long competition, earned scholarships and prizes.

"The Junior Achievement Business Challenge provides a great opportunity for high school students to work as a team with their classmates, along with a local business professional volunteer, to gain the business acumen and leadership skills they will need to successfully participate in the global economy,” said Tim Greinert, President of Junior Achievement of Wisconsin.

Ben Salzmann – president and CEO of the event sponsor and host Acuity – agrees: "Acuity is pleased to be the sponsor of the Wisconsin JA Business Challenge Championship. This event provides students statewide with valuable experiences, preparing them to be the business leaders of tomorrow.”

A total of 23 teams from 18 Wisconsin high schools tested their knowledge at making a fictional product and running a virtual business through a hands-on computer simulated business strategy tournament using JA Titan. Each team made make their own business decisions regarding price, production, marketing, capital investment, and research and development. The success or failure of the company depended on how well the students manage these key decisions.

Additionally, students learned how business decisions are made, the importance of education and work experience, and the valuable skills needed to succeed from guest speakers Paige Nelson and Corbin Mosher of Acuity.
